The Practice has dealt with the assessment, repair and upgrading of structures built of masonry, timber, cast and wrought iron and mild steel. The design and construction of foundation strengthening and retention of facades has also been undertaken previously.

Clark Smith Partnership has extensive experience in residential developments ranging from humble single properties to some of the most expensive residential property in London. In addition we are experienced in extensive schemes producing several hundred dwellings. For these developments our brief often extends to provide infrastructure design comprising roads, drainage and flood control measures as well as detailed structural advice. These sites range in character and location, from multi storey town centre development, to traditional housing estate style developments.

Our experience extends to constructions on poor ground conditions and areas of known subsidence calling for knowledge of the range of foundation design options including remediation ground improvement techniques to accommodate highly loaded ground bearing and suspended slabs.

Sports & Leisure
Working on everything from external athletics tracks, indoor sports arenas, changing facilities, all weather pitches for football & basket ball etc, swimming pools & health clubs, bowling alleys, to works at most of the main UK motor racing circuits including, Donnington Park, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Thruxton & Snetterton. We have also recently been involved in major refurbishment works at the home of English Rugby at the RFU Stadium, Twickenham, including major civils works for the Walk of Legends and South Stand plaza.

Care Homes
Clark Smith Partnership have been commissioned by leading companies in the specialist field of care for seniors and assisted living accommodation. Our experience is broad and encompasses buildings and communities throughout the UK in various and contrasting architectural styles. These buildings are heavily serviced and frequently call for complex structural solutions to blend with the architectural style and detailing. Roads, Car-parks, Drainage and Extensive Landscaping all form part of our brief on these prestigious projects.

Infrastructure
The Practice has a strong Civils section and invariably many commissions include infrastructure design for roads, drainage and flood defence schemes. The need to incorporate sustainable urban drainage systems to all new development and re-development sites has led to an increased workload in this area over recent years. As such we have undertaken a number of projects solely based upon drainage issues as well as dealing with projects which include drainage as part of the design package. During the course of such projects we have dealt with the Environment Agency, the Forestry Commission and various County Councils with regard to drainage and safe disposal of both foul and surface water drainage in a variety of situations. Many of these projects have been incorporated into a variety of road building and repair projects. Currently we have been tasked with constructing a new section of road and tunnel repair along with a new rockfall canopy on Sir Herbert Miles Road in Gibraltar.
Environmental
Clark Smith Partnership has worked on a number of Waste Transfer projects including new autoclaves for clinical waste operation, extensions to clinical waste buildings, welfare facilities for recycling centres, composting facilities and several projects with London Waste. We also have a great deal of experience with water/sewage treatment works & pumping stations projects including designing piling requirements and performance specifications, working out general arrangements and R.C. details of all reinforced concrete elements, together with the bending schedules and specifications and designing drainage layouts, details and specification. We have also designed salt saturation bunds in liaison with Thames Water, refurbished pump houses and chemical buildings. Further to our environmental projects we have also been appointed on several projects involving power generation including the detailed design of the City of London Combined Heat & Power—Charterhouse CHP Station supplying power to the Corporation of London’s major buildings in the City which included façade retentions, building retention over the Snow Hill Tunnel on a 1920s transfer deck and complex foundation design due to the proposed Crossrail Link.
Civil Engineering Structures
We have undertaken a variety of basement and deep excavation projects which have included use of underpinning, complex piling, Secant pile walling, Contiguous piled walling, raking piles and sheet pile walling as well as temporary works. Many of these and other projects also include the necessity for retaining walls and as such the Practice has offered a range of alternative methods of construction & repair. We have also undertaken a number of projects that have required complex & specialised foundation techniques.
