Advanced Technology Oat Processing Facility for Navara Oat Milling Limited

CSP are delighted to have been appointed by main contractor, T H WHITE Projects, as Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers for the design of Europe’s largest and most efficient oat processing facility in Northamptonshire.

T H White Projects, formarket leaders Camgrain, Frontier Agriculture and Anglia Maltings Holdings who formed a joint venture which brought together different yet complementary areas of expertise for this exciting development. Each participating enterprise also benefits from reputable longstanding relationships in their respective supply chains and market activities. This project is being built on land alongside the Camgrain APC in a prime arable region between Corby and Kettering, Northamptonshire.

Following full planning permission, the green light to proceed enabled extensive ground preparation to commence for construction of the processing building and associated services, followed by the main fit-out. Works on site are now well underway.

The site had a number of challenges in the design of the sub-structures due to depth of made ground. Dynamic ground improvement was selected to achieve an excellent stable platform for construction. The main building is steel framed, being in part portal framed for the 9m to eaves warehouse and braced for the pelletising, flaking and Mill Tower, which rise up to 28.5m with 6 intermediate floors. Main building footprint extends up to 32m wide by 203m long.

T H WHITE Projects appointed as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor, is working with the client to select a series of accredited sub-contractors and suppliers. On-time delivery of the project will be a primary focus for the team as it addresses the complex and challenging programme of works across the civil, mechanical and electrical components.

The site, which benefits from excellent transport links just off the busy A14 corridor, is discreetly located, hidden by the topography and vegetation which will be further enhanced by the additional planting of 6,500 new trees and shrubs.

This exciting new hi-tech facility is scheduled for completion, commissioning and hand over to Navara Oat Milling Limited during 2023. Once fully operational it will have the capacity to serve the current and growing demand for oat ingredients associated with healthy products in the food and drink sectors.

This project further extends CSP’s working relationship with T H White Projects, which has developed on 20,000 tonne steel silo farm and 35,000 tonne concrete silo bin facilities at Port of Tilbury Grain Terminal and in the refurbishment and repair of dock loading crane at Southampton Dock Grain Terminal.
